“The stone that holds the fire of the sun.” - Ancient Aztec legend (translated)

Mexican Fire Opal

From the volcanic highlands of Querétaro and Jalisco to the ancient lava fields of central Mexico, fire opal is unearthed from a landscape shaped by heat, pressure and molten stone.

Prized for its remarkable transparency and luminous body colour, fine Mexican fire opal radiates a blazing mandarin hue through to a deep reddish-orange. Unlike most opals, which display a play of colour, fire opal is prized primarily for its vivid body colour and crystal clear transparency.

Ancient Aztec and Mayan civilisations revered fire opal as a sacred stone of the sun, believing it to be a gift from the fire god, and a symbol of life force, protection and creative power.

Naturally forming in larger crystal growth, Mexican fire opal is beautifully suited to bold custom jewellery designs.
