Padparadscha Sapphire

Padparadscha, the epitome of rarity, stands as one of the most exclusive sapphires. It is believed to be the perfect fusion of the pink lotus blossom and the setting sun, requiring a delicate balance of orange and pink to earn the title of padparadscha.

The unique pinkish-orange, orangey-pink hue of padparadscha, a result of the presence of chromium in the corundum crystalline structure, cannot be tested by any machine. It is the trained eye of a skilled gemologist that can accurately identify and grade a true padparadscha.

All padparadscha sapphires were originally believed to be from Sri Lanka, adding to their exclusivity. However, in 1998, the gemstone world was thrilled by the discovery of pink sapphires, which contained small amounts of padparadscha, in Madagascar.
